The Incredibles 2 film is due out shortly, but the related video-game offers more than just a retooling of the movie plot in interactive form. LEGO The Incredibles covers not only both films, but offers an open world to explore and crime lords to defeat.

If you've played the LEGO games before, you'll know the drill. Here though, the focus is even more on the family because you play different members of the Parr household.

Players need to use different abilities to progress through the brawling and puzzles. It's light hearted combat in LEGO style. Enemies fall apart when they are struck and then disappear, hence it's provisional PEGI 7+ rating.

There are some nice set-piece moments where you combine the different character abilities to defeat an enemy or find a novel way to move forwards. One moment from the first film is recreated where the family combine to make a stretchy speedboat powered by Dash's super fast legs.

You can chose how to tackle the game as well. Either charge through the series of levels that match the film plot, or go about cleaning up the open world city. It's up to you how you go about it which is good for families with different ability players.

Also good for families is the built in creativity. My kids were excited to see footage from the preview event I attended with Warner, that they created their own stop-motion animation about Syndrome steal Mr Incredible's new video game.

Whether it inspires you family to play together, make some cut-out characters or just tip out the bricks again, LEGO The Incredibles looks like it will offer good value for fans of the film.
