Guide for Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask, from what makes it great to what to watch out for here’s the ultimate 2 minute guide.

1. Genre

The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is a single-player role-playing game around an epic story set in a cartoon-like fantasy world filled with action and adventure. Controlling Link, the elf like protagonist of the Legend Of Zelda series, players explore the fictional world of Termina, completing quests, solving puzzles and fighting monsters.

Link’s movement is controlled by the circle pad, with the console’s buttons triggering interactive items that can be found within the game world — boomerangs, grappling hooks and the like. The New 3DS has the added ability to control the in-game viewpoint with the nub, which works similarly to a second circle pad.

Majora’s Mask also introduces the concept of character transformations, with a variety of masks granting the player different abilities and specific benefits in certain situations within the game.

Recent mobile games, Oceanhorn and Little Dew are often compared to The Legend Of Zelda series, featuring similar gameplay styles and environments.

2. Story

Rather than Hyrule, Link finds himself in the parallel land of Termina with three days to stop a mischievous imp, Skull Kid, from using the Majora’s Mask to summon the Moon and destroy the world.

The player will need to guide Link around the world, completing quests that bring him a step closer to finding and defeating Skull Kid. The three day in-game time limit, which is about an hour of real-time, is key, with Link needing to play songs within the game to manipulate time, sometimes returning to the first day in order to progress.

3. Developer

The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is made by Nintendo, developers of Mario and Donkey Kong as well as many more critically acclaimed games.

4. Format

The game works on 2DS, 3DS and New 3DS and costs £34.99 in the UK and $39.99 in the US. Various special edition versions of the game are also available, the most expensive of which includes a Majora’s Mask themed version of the New 3DS. Despite appearances, the toy figure included with one version game doesn’t offer Amiibo functionality

5. Duration and Difficulty

The Legend Of Zelda Majora’s Mask 3D is considered one of the more difficult entries in The Legend Of Zelda series of games and will take players around 20hrs to complete.

6. Rating

In the UK and Europe, PEGI rates The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask a 12 for frequent mild violence

The GRA expands on its PEGI details: This is a revamped version of the game, the graphics etc have been brought up to date however the gameplay remains the same and consequently the game is rated at 12 with non-realistic looking violence towards human-like characters.

The characters that it can transform into can use a variety of weapons and includes swords, bow and arrows and bombs (powder kegs). In use some of the weapons can cause realistic looking violence towards fantasy characters.

7. Themes

With each day that passes in the game, the moon gets closer to Termina, creating a sense of hopelessness which only relents when the player returns to the first day, only for the sensation to return as events continue to unfold as before. However, this is offset by the sensation of empowerment that comes from donning Link’s famous green garb as you set off on an adventure to save the world.

8. Why people play

As one of Nintendo’s crown jewels, The Legend Of Zelda games are lovingly crafted and always eagerly anticipated. The charming sense of wonder that the characters and worlds in the series continue to evoke is a major draw for players looking for a game that provides a great sense of accomplishment with every step they take in their adventure.

Each game in the series brings with it fresh invention and ingenuity, refreshing the gameplay and providing new challenges and experiences for all players, new and old. In Majora’s Mask the novel use of time creates an unrelenting threat, but the player manipulates this to his own advantage through the use of the Ocarina, an ancient wind instrument. Along with the ability to transform your character with masks which grant Link special abilities, Majora’s Mask brings plenty of new ideas to the long running Legend Of Zelda series.
