Questions of the Month for January

Each month we field all manner of different questions on askaboutgames. Some people have intricate queries about particular games while others want to know which console will be best for their family. Here are our picks this month.

Question: My son has just got Skylanders Trap Team for the Wii U, but we're struggling with how to play 2 player mode. We have tried putting 2 characters in the portal, just tells us to remove one. Also how do you save the current level you are on?

You need to use a second controller (Wii Remote in the case of the Wii U) to add another player, then place the Skylander figure on the portal peripheral. You should be in the main game or hub world for this to work.

Skylanders, like many video-games, automatically saves progress. However this only happens for level progress once you have completed a level. Collecting gold and experience for characters is save instantly to the toy figure though.

Question: Can games I buy online transfer to a new computer?

It depends on the method of purchasing the game, but usually you can register the new computer with your game account and re-download titles. This sometimes requires you to de-register the games on the previous system.

Some game licenses enable multiple players to down load the game in one family. You can check this in the terms and conditions.

Question: Do the Trap Team Minis have any special abilities?

Trap Team mini characters work in the same way as their full sized counter part, they can have upgrades applied and gain special bonuses in areas that match their element type. Beyond this they don't have further specials.

Question: I have recently purchased a PS Vita and i think it's awesome. Will there be classics like the old teenage mutant ninja turtles arcade, double dragon, etc.

The PlayStation Vita offers a variety of games old and new. You may find the Minis games of interest as these are often retro in style and offer an affordable self contained experience. Additionally you can purchase and download a variety  of PSP games on the Vita via the PlayStationNet work store.

Question: My child wants to play LittleBigPlanet 3 on ps4 and also try to learn Turkish. If I buy digital game can she play with Turkish language?

To change the language in LittleBigPlanet you perform the following actions. This should enable you to select Turkish:

  • Select the Settings icon in your home screen
  • Scroll down to Language
  • Tap System Language and then select the language of your choice
Question: Why doesn't the PS Vita have games like Assassin's Creed?

Although the full console game isn't available on the Vita, there is a fully feature platform exclusive Vita version of Assassin's Creed: Liberation.

Question: If you use a sword in a game to slash and kill enemies, with no blood coming out, does it still count for a "PEGI 12" or change to "PEGI 16"?

Here’s information on how the Violence descriptor is applied for PEGI rated games. The issue focuses on who the violence is against.

PEGI 12: Violence at the 12 level is more profound than at 3 and 7. It is not humorous and is not in a child-like setting. Violence towards human like or animal like characters has to be non-realistic.

PEGI 16: For a game to move into the 16 category it will have violence towards human characters who are going to react to being punched, shot or attacked as they would in real life. Usually this is seen by characters being knocked back or falling to the floor. Often there will be blood, although this isn't essential. Unlike violence at 12, there are not just bright flashing lights when someone is hit and dead bodies don't disappear or fade away after a few seconds.
