Days Out: London Games Festival Is Great For Families
The London Games Festival runs from 2 to 14 April. It's a celebration of game culture over 12 days, including the Games Finance Market, EGX Rezzed, the Now Play This exhibition, BAFTA Games Awards, industry talks, and a cosplay parade.
Hoop, who offer a free app that helps parents discover family activities, have picked out their top events for families at this year’s London Games Festival:
- Cosplay Parade and Family Day Saturday 6th April | Guildhall YardA chance to make your own costume and accessories, before hundreds of video game characters take to the streets of London. There will also be stacks of free games exhibits and crafts suitable perfect for the whole family.
- MythMash
Saturday 6th – Sunday 14th April | Now Play This Festival at Somerset HouseMythMash provides a non-competitive space for collaborative, fantasy storytelling and worldbuilding. The game aims to encourage positive change through interactive experiences and to show others that they too have the power to create new worlds.
- Trafalgar Square Games Festival Saturday 13th April | Trafalgar SquareTrafalgar Square will be buzzing with exciting free activities, including a chance to play games competitively against the pro gamers, fun photo opportunities, life-sized retro games from the Actual Reality Arcade and much more.

It brings the latest in experimental game design from around the world, across an extended nine-day festival. This year’s extended festival focuses on the idea of community, exploring how dedicated communities formed amongst players and game-makers alike feed into the creative process behind some of the most inventive and thought-provoking games of today.
From solo games to multiplayer collaborative experiences, Now Play This presents numerous gaming installations from a host of multidisciplinary artists and creators, many of which premiere for the first time at the festival. This year’s festival also features two free outdoor games, open to all visitors of Somerset House.
