Questions of the Month for August
Each month we field all manner of different questions on askaboutgames. Some people have intricate queries about particular games while others want to know which console will be best for their family. Here are our picks this month.
Question: Is it possible to play a brand new PlayStation 3 game on one console then go to another and play the game there without harming the PS3 or the disk?Answer: Physical copies of games can be played on any number of consoles without causing any problems. It should be noted that some games come with codes that allow access to certain parts of the experience, once these have been used on one console they will not be available elsewhere.
Question: When playing Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2. In the mission, No Fighting in the War Room I keep on getting blown up just as I get past the missiles silos by the door leading out. Can you please help me!Answer: The best way to get help of this kind is to Google for game walk-throughs. In addition to written guides there are a variety of Let's Play videos on YouTube that can also help.
Question: I have just purchased a secondhand Skylander figure. Unfortunately it has already been used. Is there any way that I can return to the beginning of the game and start from scratch with the figure on my portal?Answer: If you put the Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, or Skylanders Giants figure on the portal and bring up their menu you can select to reset the figure so it will be as new. Note that this will also reset any experience or gold the character has collected. The same functionality will be in Swap Force, that will also support figures from the previous games.
Question: Can 3DS games (like Pokemon X or Y) be played on DSi XL?Answer: Only 3DS hardware (the original 3DS and 3DS XL) can play 3DS games. Pokemon X and Y will only be available on 3DS. However, Nintendo have announced a more cost effective handheld that will play 3DS games (without 3D), the 2DS. Check out our post on the device.
Question: My friend gave me his old copy of Skylanders Giants, the wired portal and Cynder for Xbox 360. When the game asks me to put a Skylander on the portal at the opening of the story mode I put Cynder on and the elemental skull shows up on the screen but it stays that way and won't go beyond. Is something the matter with one of these or do I need a particular character to start the game?Answer: It sounds like you may have a faulty portal. Try placing another figure on the portal, if that works it is your Cynder at fault. If the other Skylanders figure still doesn't work you could try borrowing a portal from a friend to try (it will need to be a 360 version). One thing to note that Skylanders Swap Force will provide a new portal that is also backward compatible with Giants and Spyro's Adventure.
