Questions of the Month for September

In Homepage, Blog, Console, Handheld, Advice, Questions of the Month

Each month we field all manner of different questions on askaboutgames. Some people have intricate queries about particular games while others want to know which console will be best for their family. Here are our picks this month.

Question: I need to know if I can buy the Nintendo 3DS Skylanders Giants Portal Owner Pack  if I already have the Spyros Adventure Portal. Also, I was looking at ordering the New Swap force Skylanders, I see the preorders all come with a portal. Is it necessary to have the new portal or will the one that came with spyro’s adventure work?

Answer: Although the portals are not compatible with different consoles, on one system the Giants and Spyros Adventure portals are the same. In Swap Force you need a new portal.

Question: How do you access multi-player on ‘The Last of Us’ PS3?

Answer: The multi-player is not part of the main game. Ensure your PS3 console is connected to the PlayStation Network and logged in with your user, start The Last Of Us and select Factions from the menu.

Question: Is it illegal to play games above my age? Or is illegal to by them?

Answer: The games ratings are there to stop inappropriate games being sold to people under the recommended age. They are legally enforced at the point of sale of the game.

Question: My 6 y/o is trying to play Swap Force, having some trouble. what is the white switch with an RT on it? How do you activate it? He’s been stuck in the same place for a while.

Answer: RT means the Right Trigger of the Xbox 360 controller. It’s a shorthand that isn’t obvious but is usually explained in the game manuals. I hope this helps your son progress. Another good solution if you are stuck on a game like this is to check a YouTube Let’s Play video.

Question: I’m looking for the game I used to play at a local library quite a few years ago. It was a game that you could build an empire or city. You had to send little workers out to chop down trees, work in a quarry for rocks.  You could build your own army and everything.  It doesn’t have any cartoon feel to the game. It was super realistic type of graphics for how old the game is.

Answer: There are a number of games like that, but this sounds like it is from the Age of Empires series.
