Questions of the Month for September

Featured Image for Questions of the Month for September

Each month we field all manner of different questions on askaboutgames. Some people have intricate queries about particular games while others want to know which console will be best for their family. Here are our picks this month.

Question: I have 2 grandsons who want giant Skylanders.  Does each player need a portal or is one sufficient when playing on Wii.

Answer: Two players can play the Skylanders game at the same time. This requires one console, one copy of the game, on portal and two controllers. The portal can have two Skylanders figures on it at any one time. Buying one copy of Skylanders Giants should be sufficient for the needs of your family.

Question:  What does the color of a PlayStation case mean, I've seen clear, red and black thanks?

Answer: The colour of the PlayStation is usually just aesthetic, although it can help to distinguish different models -- PS2 and PS3 for instance.

Question: I'm a teacher at a school doing a BTEC unit looking at the video games industry. I am having trouble trying to find any site that has information on the recent sales of consoles or games in the UK.

Answer 3: A good source of console sales for the UK is the VG Chartz website. For instance they maintain a list of UK console sales. They also maintain UK game sales figures.

On the askaboutgames site we keep a track of the top selling games by PEGI age rating.

Question: I am considering buying a PlayStation 3 and would like to know if i can play my old PlayStation 2 games on it as some of the games are still played and enjoyed.

Answer: The PlayStation 3 supports a range of PS2 games, although the exact list depends on the model of PS3 you own. Some PS2 games, such as God of War or Ico and Shadow of the Colossus have been released on the PS2 with HD graphics. Here is a good PS3-PS2 compatibility list for your reference.
